New Project!

December 29, 2008 - Leave a Response

Take a good look around you the next time you ride the train. It probably won’t surprise you to see everyone grooving along to their ipods, blackberries, dvd playing gadget do-hickey thingy. In this city everyone seems to carry their media in their pocket. It is a very isolating experience. Private. Personal. However, it is such a universal it seems we have become a community; together in our isolation.
Youth on Target’s latest project seeks to explore this idea. How does media unite us and separate us? How does it at one time act as an impenetrable bubble and also a vehicle for self expression?

Based in Astoria Park, “Story Park” (working title) will unite devised theater and our favorite gadget- The Ipod- to create a totally new performance experience. Stay tuned for more details!

Time?  11:19 pm.  Task?  Dying costumes to the desired design color.

This proccess reminds us again and again that it’s up to us do drive our own bus. (The rhyme is not intentional, I promise.)  Having lost our drapers for our production Izzy is now not only director, but seamstress and designer.   However, lemons to lemonade- we’ve had a quite a good time playing with buckets, boiling water and dye in our kitchen.  There’s nothing like late night dying (dyeing?) to bring cast and director closer together.  New warm-up game?  You betcha.

Updates

April 14, 2008 - Leave a Response

Hello darling blog readers,

We wanted to update everyone on our progress.  We’re about 50% of the way through the show and (if we may say so ourselves) it’s pretty darn good.  Laughter, tears, anger…and that’s before we even get into the rehearsal space.  Har, har, har.  Seriously, the work is excellent and exciting.  We’re taking the children’s theater scene by storm.  Back off Manhattan Children’s Theater…Bushwick is in the house.

On another note we’d like to extend a very special thanks to Ms. Haruka Mori and her friends for their contributions.  We couldn’t do it without all of your help.  THANK YOU!

We’ll be posting video soon…with love.

Hello everyone,

First off, Izzy and I would like to thank all of you who attended the benefit on Thursday.  We were so happy to see all your smiling slightly blurry faces there!  If you weren’t able to attend…DON’T PANIC.   You can still donate your 5 hard earned dollars by making a check payable to Youth on Target and sending it to the address on our website.  Or you could hand deliver it when you come to our house party next weekend to help us take care of all the leftovers…

We’ve had our first rehearsal and it was a major success.  The cast was happy to be reunited and we’re excited to start making some genius choices onstage.    Worst come to worst we’re at least going to laugh a lot.  With a little luck the audience will too.  :-)

Keep reading for updates!

Love,

Benefit!

February 14, 2008 - 2 Responses

Hey everyone!

Exciting news!  Our benefit is going to be kicked off on March 6th, 2008 at the Micro Museum in good ‘ol Brooklyn.  We thought we’d get everyone used to trucking it out to the BK considering our first week of performances are nestled in the heart of Bushwick.  The Micro- Museum is located in Carrol Gardens- check out the website for more details.  www.youthontarget.org  We’re very happy to be showing some work from our favorite artists.  Please come support us and view this wonderful visual art.

We are gearing up for our first rehearsal on March 1st.  Ideas are already bubbling and the creative team can’t wait to let loose.  It’s going to be a fast process but we’re excited to honor each others talents and then combine them.  :-)   CINDERELLA HERE WE COME!

Welcome!

Hello everyone!  Thank you for checking out our blog.  The company is VERY excited about our upcoming production of Cinderella.  We have a long way to go before our performance run this summer and we’ve decided that the best way to entertain and educate our audience is to “crack open” our entire process.  Do you know we haven’t even WRITTEN the show yet?  Our company likes to create work as a team and our rehearsal process is our CREATION process too.  Cinderella is a story that has been told thousands of times.  We’re challenging ourselves to make it new and exciting again.  Keep checking this blog for rehearsal updates, video links and interviews with the cast and crew.   We’ll update soon- and please feel free to leave us comments.

All our best,

Y on T
